ANA\C Awards & Recognitions

ANA\C presents the following awards to ANA\C members at the Membership Assembly which is held annually during the month of October. There are several different awards giving the opportunity to recognize members across a broad spectrum. Please read about the awards and complete the nomination process.




The 2014 Award Winners:

On September 6, 2014 four distinguished nurses were recognized for their contributions to the profession at the annual ANA\C Membership Assembly.


Susan AdamsThe Betty Curtis Award recognizing a registered nurse who is an advocate on behalf of nursing and health care in the legislature, regulatory boards, or other public policy arenas.

Susan Adams, RN, NP, PhD
Marin County Board of Supervisors
Managing the public health preparedness program. She is a stellar advocate for her community, for health policy, and access to services.


The Ray Cox Award recognizing the lifelong commitment of an individual registered nurse in the field of nursing and their impact and dedication to the advancement of Nursing as a profession in the state of California.

Mary Dee Hacker, RN, MBS, NEA-BC, FAAN
Chief Nursing Executive Children's Hospital Los Angeles
For over 30 years Mary Dee has been passionate about nursing inspiring other nurses to work to and above their potential. She truly understands the impact a nurse has when at the beside of a patient.


Jean HarlowThe President's Award is granted to a registered nurse whom the ANA\California President believes makes an outstanding contribution to nursing. The ANA\C President will herself/himself decide and present the award to the recipient.

Parish Nurse Westminster Presbyterian Church

A public health nurse, education consultant with the BRN and now a faith community based nurse who has the hear of a fierce lioness. This is how one colleague described Jean. She started with ANA\C at its inception in 1995.


Vince Salyer, RNThe Joanne Powell Award recognizes a person who demonstrates outstanding leadership, research, or contributions to the body of knowledge affecting nursing.

Dr. Salyers research interest is investigating teaching and learning approaches in traditional and e-learning environments to improve, faculty and client experience. The results can inform nursing education practice, policy, and improve learning outcomes across international disciplines.
