Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Linda Burnes Bolton (1948 – 2025): A Trailblazer in Nursing and Healthcare Leadership

The nursing and healthcare community mourns the loss of Dr. Linda Burnes Bolton, DrPH, RN,  FAAN, a pioneering nurse and healthcare leader, who passed away on January 11, 2025. Her  extraordinary contributions to nursing, healthcare policy, and equity in healthcare have left an  indelible mark on the profession and beyond. Dr. Burnes Bolton was a visionary leader who  served as vice president and chief nursing officer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she  advanced nursing excellence and innovative care delivery. 

She was a former president of the American Academy of Nursing, the American Organization of  Nurse Executives, and the National Black Nurses Association, dedicating her career to improving  healthcare outcomes and advocating for diversity and inclusion in the nursing workforce. As a  member of the National Academy of Medicine, she played a pivotal role in shaping healthcare  policy, particularly through her contributions to the Institute of Medicine's landmark reports,  including The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. 

Her unwavering commitment to health equity and her tireless efforts to uplift underrepresented voices in healthcare will continue to inspire future generations.
