Under Tavenner's leadership she saw the growth of the Health Insurance Marketplace grow that is now thriving with million of Americans who were previously uninsured. ANA expressed its sincere appreciation for her work in a press release on January 16.

    ANA is offering two brochures. One is entitled Imagine A Nation without Nurses and the other is IOM Recommendation for Change in Nurse Workforce.



  • Barriers to RN Scope of Practice:
    The American Nurses Association (ANA) is pleased to announce the selection of members for ANA’s Professional Issues Panel, Barriers to RN Scope of Practice. The goal of this Professional Issues Panel is to identify and clarify barriers to RNs practicing to the full extent of their education, experience, and scope of practice (as set down by the relevant Nurse Practice Act), and guide the development of resources to address these barriers at the institutional, state, and federal level.

    Nearly 250 applications were received for this Panel. Two groups have been convened to advise ANA and support this important work. The Steering Committee (consisting of 15 members) will do a deep dive into the topic and meet intensively via conference calls. The calls will begin in early January with a projected completion date of six to nine months. The Advisory Committee (consisting of approximately 230 members) will provide additional information, feedback and advice to ANA and the Steering Committee by responding online to specific questions, documents and dialogue.
