  • Health Workforce Initiative Offers Free Online CEU Courses:
    Grant-funded Free Online CEU Nursing Courses will be offered until June 30, 2013. This is a program through the CA Community College Chancellor's Office and its Economic and Workforce Development Program.   • Federal Staffing Legislation Proposed:
    The Registered Nurse Safe Staffing Act of 2013 (H.R. 1821) was introduced in Congress by David Joyce (R-OH) and Lois Capps (D-CA). You can read the content of the bill.



  • Translating Veterans' Medical Skills into Nursing Careers:
    At the White House HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced a new program to help military veterans with health care experience or training, such as medics, pursue nursing careers. The program is designed to help veterans get bachelor's degrees in nursing by building on their unique skills and abilities. For more information visit www.grants.gov



  • ALERT-Shortage of TB Skin Test Antigens:
    There is a shortage nationwide until at least the end of May 2013 of Tubersol which is one of the 2 purified-protein derivative (PPD) tuberculin products that are licensed by the FDA. Read about the recommendations from the CDC on how to manage this critical situation.


  • ANA-PAC Board of Trustees Election:
    The application for the ANA-PAC Board of Trustees is due by May 31st. The term of office runs from July 1, 2013-June 30, 2015. The ANA-PAC Board of Trustees consists of 11 eleven members who are selected from ANA members. ANA-PAC is dedicated to the promotion of improvement in health care by raising funds from members and contributing to the support of worthy candidates for federal office who believe and have demonstrated their beliefs in the legislative objectives of the ANA. If you are an ANA member and are interested in applying for election to the PAC visit www.nursingworld.org for an application and job description. Applications are due by May 31st.

  • IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM BRN FOR NEW AND RENEWING LICENSE APPLICANTS:
    Please complete your application prior to April 24, 2013 in order to avoid delays. The Department of Consumer Affairs is replacing current online licensing systems with the new BreEZe licensing and enforcement system. The transition could cause delays, possibly beginning in May.

    Renewing licensees: If you are going to pay with a credit card, please renew as soon as possible.

    Graduating students: Don't wait until the end of the school year to submit your application even if your application will not be complete. Submit your application for the licensure exam now!

  • Avian Influenza A (H7N9) Virus:
    The WHO (World Health Organization) has reported a number of human infections of the H7N9 viruses in China. This is the first time this virus has been detected in humans. It results in severe respiratory illness and in some cases death. The CDC is following this evolving situation closely. General information can be found at www.cdc.gov.
