  • Nurse Week May 6-12: NURSES LEADING THE WAY

At this time the American Nurses Foundation will award up to $225,000 in 2014 Research Grants. Application process is open through May 1, 2014. Learn more.

  • World Premiere Screening "The American Nurse":
    On May 7th during nurses week the American Nurses Foundation and Fresenius Kabi USA will host the world premiere Screening of the new documentary The American Nurse. This is a powerful film by Carolyn Jones which will debut at the American Film Institute Silver Theatre and Cultural Center. The film will be released nationwide following this event.   • ACNL CEO Honored with AONE Nurse Mentor Award:
    Patricia McFarland, MS, RN, FAAN was presented with this pretigious award for her exemplary work in furthering the professional development of nurses in leadership roles. You can view her acceptant speech at You Tube.


  • HHS Releases Security Risk Assessement Tool:
    To help providers with HIPAA compliance. This tool will help health care providers in small to medium sized offices conduct risk assessments of their organizations. Download this assessment tool.

  • Organization Focusing on Patient Safety Become ANA Affiliates:
    New affiliates are the Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare (AOHP)and the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses (AAHFN). This brings the total number of ANA partner organizations to 33.


  • American Academy of Pediatrics & Retail-Based Clinics:
    The AAP has issued a warning telling parents not to use clinics like those in CVS and Walgreens for pediatric primary care because they feel they fragment medical care and are detrimental to the medical home concept of longitudinal and coordinated care. This updates their 2006 statement which flatly opposed these sites as appropriate for pediatric care. ANA and other nurse organizations are opposed to this and ANA has issued a statement in response to the AAP new principles. You can read the entire ANA statement which supports the delivery of primary care and other health care services by nurse practitioners in retail-based health clinics.

  • ANA & Chamberlain College of Nursing Collaborate:

  • One Strong Voice: New ANA Blog
    This new blog has been posted on the ANA's policy blog on the pending RN retirement "tsunami." Authored by Peter McMenamin, PhD says that by 2022 the nation will need to produce 1.13 million RNs to fill both the expansion jobs and the replacements, and find ways for the new RN to gain the experience that will be lost in the tsunami.
